2009 Grants Announced

The PHS Foundation 2009 Grants, which will provide funding for classroom needs and the acquisition of the newest technologies, were awarded to the following teachers:
  • Spanish teacher David Marlow will purchase three iPod touch units with cases to enable Spanish V students to produce three video podcasts. The podcasts will be accessible to all PHS students in Spanish III, IV, and V.
  • French teacher Susan Austin will purchase magnetic dry erase boards, which will be used for displaying information relating to her classes. Displays relating to culture, history, and current events can be quickly set up and changed as needed.
  • Three teachers in the Autism program will purchase a multi-purpose sewing machine, which will sew, quilt, and embroider. Students in their classes will increase their independence by improving their life skills.
  • Art Teacher Tim Spindler plans to introduce a program in Graphic Design for the next school year. He will be purchasing an Apple MacBook computer and a color flatbed/scanner for use in the class.
  • Math teacher Wayne Clark will use his grant to purchase a Mimio Interactive and Mimio Pad. With this technology, any regular white board becomes an interactive board. A computer captures the information that students can write individually at their seats and display it on the board for class discussion.
  • The PHS Safety Team will purchase a notebook computer with wireless capability which can connect to the state website and enable the registrar to remotely access student information during an evacuation. The computer will also be able to access the school security camera system.
  • The 9th Grade Red Team will purchase a Dell laptop, projector, and transport cart. The technology will be shared by the Math, Science, English, and Social Studies teachers on the team as they further 21st Century learning techniques.
  • Teachers of Advanced Communication will purchase three flip video cameras, three digital cameras, tripods, and supplies to be used in digital presentations beyond Power Point. The technology will enhance skills in communication, team building, and the creation and delivery of presentations. All sophomores are required to take the course.
